Title: Advanced Reconfigurable and Multi-Functional RF Components for Emerging Wireless Systems

Abstract: The purpose of this talk is to present recent research advances in the field of multi-functional and reconfigurable RF/microwave passive filtering components for emerging wireless systems. Specifically, power-distribution and impedance-transformation planar networks with added bandpass filtering capability, as well as filtering devices that integrate several filtering functionalities (e.g., bandpass filtering and dynamic notch filtering for in-band interference mitigation) are reviewed. Two different design philosophies are expounded for the realization of these dual-function circuits: i) the embedding of transversal signal-interference filtering sections to incorporate high-selectivity single/multi-band bandpass filtering capabilities for frequency-static applications, and ii) the inclusion of fully-adaptive single/multi-band quasi-bandpass filtering stages for frequency-adaptive systems. The theoretical foundations of these design techniques are described. Moreover, the experimental results of several microstrip proof-of-concept prototypes will be shown as practical verification of the engineered reconfigurable and multi-functional components

Short Bio: Roberto Gómez-García is an Associate Professor at the Department of Signal Theory and Communications, University of Alcalá, Alcalá de Henares, Spain, where he teaches courses in microwave engineering. His research interests are in the pursuit of new concepts to design advanced fixed-/reconfigurable-frequency RF filters and multiplexers in planar, hybrid and MMIC technologies, multi-function circuits, and novel software-defined radio and radar architectures for telecommunications, remote sensing and biomedical applications. He has been an Associate Editor for several IEEE Journals, including IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques and IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I. He was the recipient of the 2016 IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S) Outstanding Young Engineer Award, and is an Adjunct Part-Time Professor at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, China.
